Spears Charged with Brit and Run

Britney Spears has been charged with one count of hit and run causing property damage and one count of driving without a valid California license. Both charges are misdemeanors, each carrying a maximum of 6 months in jail.

The charges stem from an August 6 incident in L.A. where Spears was in a private parking lot in the San Fernando Valley.

The Los Angeles City Attorney filed charges this afternoon.

Spears' arraignment is set for October 10.

The City Attorney sent Spears a letter notifying her of the charges. That letter was mailed today.

The victim filed a police report at the LAPD North Hollywood Division on August 9 and filed a report.

After leaving her lawyer's office, Britney went to a home in Bel Air.

A neighbor says the home is owned by a nurse. Ding dang, y'all, we don't know why she was there. After that, she went to a pet store in Malibu. We'll post that video tomorrow.

76. This is the first time I saw this video. What gets me is that she never check the other person's car. It was all about her car/herself. To the person that saids that she is BI-POLAR, I think she might be.

79. #65 how do YOU know she left her info? And she didn't lose her license as result of the "accident" she didn't have a valid license to begin with! Are you her little sister or something? If you are - stage an intervention for the sake of those children. And stop calling her a child or a young gir. She is a 25 year old grown woman and it's time to stop blaming her mother for everything. At 25 it's damn well time to take responsibility for her own actions. She ought to be thanking her mother - if not for mom Britney would still be a hillbilly in podunk Louisiana.

80. That video will clear her, since she clearly asks the paparrazi if she caused damage to the other car, and they clearly told her no. I'm therefore wondering if the person whose car was hit really has any damage, or if they're just milking her for money after they found out it was Britney.

As for the license charge, if it wasn't suspended (and I assume you'd be slobbering all over the story if it was), she probably just forgot to renew it. That happens to people all the time, and if it were anyone else, they'd just issue her a ticket, which will be dismissed if she renews before her court date. No big deal.

Insofar as Britney going to a nurse's house and a pet store .... that's okay, we'll pass on the videos of those momentous events. **eyes rolling**

81. #65 ( my post) in answer to #71. I remember reading that she got out checked both cars and asked the paparazzi to take pisctures of both cars. People made fun of her for using the paparazzi that way. Hey ... they had cameras ... why not. It also stated that she left information, but didn't stick around for the owner of the car car to return. A lot of people don't understand that even if the accident takes place on private property, you still need to file a police accident report.

83. All she cared about was her stupidazz car! She didnt even bother to check the other persons care of ask about the other persons car. AND poor dog!! Isnt it against the law to not secure your pet in the vehicle??? Quick someone call PETA!

85. No valid California license? This girl tends to think that rules and normal procedures/actions don't apply to her. Bad enough she just flaked off when she hit that other car, but this info about the license makes her look even more bad.

87. As I said to a friend, "Do you know what, if she does get six months or more in jail and doesn't get a shortened sentence by the judge then I'll be pissed. Sure, she should have taken care of her business in this situation but if Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie and Lindsay Lohan get off on hours/days in jail for drunk driving (which is worse than hitting a parked car or driving without a valid license) then something is seriously wrong here."

90. Brit HAD a valid licenses at the time of the accident. It was revoked when she didn't file the police report in the time allocate. Been there ... done that. learned the hard way. Oregon has the same law.
