Spears Charged with Brit and Run

Britney Spears has been charged with one count of hit and run causing property damage and one count of driving without a valid California license. Both charges are misdemeanors, each carrying a maximum of 6 months in jail.

The charges stem from an August 6 incident in L.A. where Spears was in a private parking lot in the San Fernando Valley.

The Los Angeles City Attorney filed charges this afternoon.

Spears' arraignment is set for October 10.

The City Attorney sent Spears a letter notifying her of the charges. That letter was mailed today.

The victim filed a police report at the LAPD North Hollywood Division on August 9 and filed a report.

After leaving her lawyer's office, Britney went to a home in Bel Air.

A neighbor says the home is owned by a nurse. Ding dang, y'all, we don't know why she was there. After that, she went to a pet store in Malibu. We'll post that video tomorrow.

62. How can u purchase a vehicle without a valid license. I do know in some states u do not have to show proof of insurance at the time of purchasing a vehilce. Not sue if California is a no fault state or not. If it is u do have to show proof of insurance even if u pay for the vehicle in full. Did not know that she did try to locate the owner of the vehicle. She get "Browie Points" for that. Yes she should have on her own filed a report of what she did.

63. She doesn't have a license??? Yet drives all the time, and remember driving with the baby on her lap? "We're just country..." Yeah, well, I'm from Louisiana too and we all have driver's licenses. Another report I read said that she has never had a valid California license. WTF?!

Kevin should have no problem getting custody or at least barring her from driving the children anywhere. She clearly is willing to put them in danger if she drives without a license.

64. How does #65 know that she left info? It wasn't on the video they showed on my T.V.
What the video did show me was that she showed no concern for the damage to the car she hit, she went directly to the front to look at her own car! Don't you think those people she pays to watch over her would have made sure she filed an accident report? She is a hot mess. (and the poor yorkie on her lap...he has no idea how much danger he is in when driving with her!)

68. #65 ( my post) in answer to #71. I remember reading that she got out checked both cars and asked the paparazzi to take pisctures of both cars. People made fun of her for using the paparazzi that way. Hey ... they had cameras ... why not. It also stated that she left information, but didn't stick around for the owner of the car car to return. A lot of people don't understand that even if the accident takes place on private property, you still need to file a police accident report.

69. No valid California license? This girl tends to think that rules and normal procedures/actions don't apply to her. Bad enough she just flaked off when she hit that other car, but this info about the license makes her look even more bad.

71. As I said to a friend, "Do you know what, if she does get six months or more in jail and doesn't get a shortened sentence by the judge then I'll be pissed. Sure, she should have taken care of her business in this situation but if Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie and Lindsay Lohan get off on hours/days in jail for drunk driving (which is worse than hitting a parked car or driving without a valid license) then something is seriously wrong here."

72. Brit HAD a valid licenses at the time of the accident. It was revoked when she didn't file the police report in the time allocate. Been there ... done that. learned the hard way. Oregon has the same law.
